  2. Thank you Suzanne. That's interesting, even though one does have to listen for an hour and a half.

    If Alter is correct, that means the average ancient Israelite was both willing and capable of listening a lot more attentively than modern people - probably true.

  3. I absolutely love that type of analysis. The only thing I don't like is that I couldn't come to those conclusions on my own reading the Bible, even if I knew Hebrew, which I don't. I knew they used "bookends" but I wasn't on the lookout for what was omitted since I was looking so hard for the parallelisms. I have read some of his book on Genesis and I love the poetic imagery which kind of pushes my brain closer to the realm of the spiritual rather than the material. He is truly a great man an one of a handful that can astound and enlighten me with true joy in Biblical discovery. I'm going to pre-order his Pentateuch from Amazon.
