Why was the ESV produced?

I think Grudem has spent too long amongst seminary students. He has a homogenised view of church-goers/Bible readers that flies in the face of literacy statistics. Over on Andrew Warnock's blog entry of this interview I've listed various groups of English speakers that Grudem (and also sadly that many translators working on English versions) neglects. They form a sizable proportion of either the general or church populations.

Thank you, Trevor, for posting something here about what you posted there. You know how it is sometimes, we think we'll all here, but others wonder if we're all there!

Seriously, I added another comment there this morning, stating, along the lines of comments from you and David Dewey, that if the ESV is truly going to become a "standard" version ("Standard" is its middle name and the first name of the Bible society that now promotes the ESV), it first needs to be revised to contain more of some version of standard English. And I would think that such standard English would need to include the different groups today who speak forms of standard English, not just those who are in the groups which have, so far, been enthusiastic about the ESV.
