Meaning in context

An adequate translation of the Bible requires us that we understand the meaning of each biblical language form in its original context. That context includes the linguistic features in which that form is embedded as well as the cultural and historical milieu in which it appears.

Mark Goodacre has blogged on how important context is within New Testament scholarship. Mark's points apply equally well to how critical it is that we pay attention to meaning in context for adequate Bible translation.
