Who’s endorsing the ESV?

image

internetmonk is being mischievous.

See here: ESV Study Bible Product Placement Photos Needed

And here: Exhibits for the Lawsuit

But of course there is a serious point here. We rely on celebrity endorsements for our Bible purchases. Whether that is the pastor or a conference speaker or a denominational leader, we depend on others to decide which Bible is best.

So, is this joke funny?

J.I. Packer endorses it but I think he went overboard when he called the ESV the biggest milestone in Bible translation in certainly the last half century at least, and perhaps more.

I don't know. If the Marx brothers like it, it must be really good.

They should put 1 Tim 2:12 in that picture right below her.

"I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet."

From the ESV of course. It could be like a "motivational" poster.

Who is endorsing the ESV? I don't have a clue who this person is, so I'm no doubt missing the joke.

You're a lucky in your ignorance. That's Oprah Winfrey, a famous talk-show host.

The opposite problem, where I live is: If the pastor or conference speaker endorses nothing, the people will read nothing.
