Bryon writes a very entertaining article about a strange edition of the New Century Bible: The Duct Tape Bible - New Century Version
I remember in the mid-90’s hearing a lot of radio spots featuring the New Century Version. I always had a positive reaction to the readings. However, I’m not sure what happened to the NCV. Maybe it came unstuck.

NCV is alive and well at least here in the UK as the text of many Bibles targeted at children and youth.
I am trying to post the following comment on Bryon's blog, but instead getting caught up in his moderation system:
I'm not sure Ken Anderson is correct about the history. He certainly disagrees with the usually very careful Michael Marlowe, according to whom the International Children's Bible (NT 1983, whole Bible 1986) has the same text as the NCV (NT 1984, whole Bible 1987). Indeed recent editions of the ICB are marketed as having the NCV text. There is mention of a 1991 revision of NCV, including "to make the version more suitable for an older readership", but the NCV name was in use before that.
Are current editions of ICB still using the 1986 text? If so we have the confusing situation that the ICB is currently being marketed at least in the UK as the NCV text at the same time as a different NCV text is being marketed to adults. Maybe we have in effect a UK NCV which is the old child-friendly version and a US NCV which is the 1991 higher level adaptation.
I note that the Wikipedia article on NCV is very misleading.
I'm getting more and more confused. According to Thomas Nelson who publish both in the USA, ICB and NCV are different versions. Here is John 3:16-17 in both, as on their site:
ICB:
16 For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son. God gave his Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life. 17 God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world guilty, but to save the world through him.
NCV:
16 God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life. 17 God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world guilty, but to save the world through him.
The difference is not huge but enough to show that these are not identical. The "For" in the ICB suggests that this is actually the older text.
But here in the UK Authentic Lifestyle publishes both ICB and adult editions of NCV as the same text.
I will try to borrow a UK copy of ICB from my church, which has some, and compare with the US ICB and NCV.
This page offers an even better selection of UK NCVs and ICBs (some are described as "Fully anglicised NCV Bible"), also "The Everyday Reading Bible (ERV) [which] is an updated version of the New Century Version (NCV) first published in 1986 by the World Bible Translation Centre and the base translation for Authentic's bestselling International Children's Bible and Youth Bible." So yet another Bible with the acronym ERV (neither the Easy-to-Read version, predecessor of NCV, nor the English Revised Version) and the UK publisher's take on the history of NCV, which seems to ignore the 1991 revision.
Compare it to the version at Biblegateway while you're at it.
I've used duct tape on many books including bibles.
Currently I'm considering breaking my CEV Learning Bible into smaller chunks because it's so heavy. Maybe I could use duct tape for the binding!
