mixed motives

When I have been honest with myself, I have often had to admit that I have mixed motives, even when I'm doing good things. Today in our Bible reading at breakfast, my wife and I were struck by Prov. 21:8:
Mixed motives twist life into tangles; pure motives take you straight down the road. (The Message)
There's a good word for today! And have a good day.

An honest admission. One that we all need to keep in mind on a daily basis. I'm first to admit that my motives aren't always right. Who knows, if I sat down and thought it out, I am fearful to know comparatively how often my motives are pure from a Biblical standpoint.
