ESV Bible reading contest: the winner is ...

Greg Williams has won our ESV Bible reading contest. Greg says:
I've read through the ESV 2 times, and am currently on my 3rd complete pass.
Well done, Greg, and congratulations on winning this contest. Sometimes I wonder if reading the Bible through has become largely a lost activity among Bible users, so it is always good to hear of people like yourself who are still getting that good overall exposure to Scripture.

I think you're right Wayne reading through the entire narrative is a lost discipline. Some might eventually read it all as they dip in and out of the individual books but rarely have I encounter someone like Greg who has made a deliberate effort to start with Genesis and finish in Revelation.

Such an observation is made sadder by the thought that tonight there will be children of all ages around the world waiting for the clock to tick over to 00:00UTC so they can lay their hands on a copy of the sixth Harry Potter book (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and to read that all the way through just as they did with the previous one and the one before that yet neither they nor their parents will invest the same amount of time reading the Bible from cover to cover. I have no theological problem with the Harry Potter series; indeed our family copy is to be delivered sometime during the night.

I want people to read the biblical text with as much interest and passion and expectation as children are experiencing waiting for it to be midnight in England. That's something that Greg has clearly developed for himself and that effort makes him a worthy winner.
